Canada : Classic Stamps 1851 to 1900 - Northwind Stamps

Canada's first classic stamp, designed by Sanford Fleming in 1851, pictures the humble beaver and is notable because it was the first depiction of wildlife on a postage stamp. The beaver was chosen to represent the importance of the fur trade to the British Empire. Later issues include the large and small queens, the Diamond Jubilee Issue of 1897 and the famous bi-color Map stamp.
